Junior Newsletter

November/December Newsletter

Our curling season for 2010 – 2011 has started on a successful note.  We currently have 3 curling groups:  Little Rocks (ages 6 – 9), Novice (ages 10 – 12) and Juniors (ages 13 – 18).

Everyone has had fun playing several regular games while learning the basic skills of curling and the strategies of the game at the same time.

Little Rocks play from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m., Novice play from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., while our Juniors play from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m.  With these new times parents still have the best part of Saturday for doing other weekend things.

We are still taking registrations for all 3 levels.  If you know anyone who is interested in learning how to curl invite them to come along – they will be coached in an accelerated manner to bring them up to speed with the other curlers in a quick fashion.

JUNIORS

Our Juniors started their league games on October 30.  We currently have 4 teams and they are playing for points.  The team with the most points at the end of the season will carry off the league championship for the year.  Coaches will still continue to teach strategies and good curling form while they are playing their games.

We hope to find more Juniors so we will be able to form more teams.  Anyone interested please contact us on Saturday mornings or contact the Club at 780. 466-5789.

CURLING JACKETS

Once again we are taking orders for curling jackets.  Jackets are valued at $40.00 but are being sold to all curlers in our Junior program for $20.00 with the Shamrock picking up the expense for the other half.  The jackets should be ready for distribution in the early part of the new year.

BONSPIELS

As some of you are aware the Shamrock picks up some of the cost of our teams entering bonspiels or playdowns.  If you wish to participate let Danny or Lani know and they will present their list to the Shamrock for approval.  The Shamrock would love to re-vitalize our Leprechaun Bonspiel but timing, an influx of bonspiels at other clubs and a lack of teams participating made it difficult to continue.  If there is sufficient interest the Club will look at doing this ‘Spiel in the last part of the season – speak to Lani or Danny and let them know if you think we could make this successful again in a new format – perhaps with younger curlers also being able to participate.

DECEMBER ACTIVITIES

We will be curling on the 4th, 11th and 18th of December and the 18th will be our Christmas party with complimentary hot dogs and fries for all our curlers.  We will be back curling after the Christmas break on January 15thWOW! Is time flying or what???
